Walking Tour 4 days
Itinerary: from 6:00am (first day) to 6:00pm (4th day)
Frequency: Every day (with reservation)
(B) = Breakfast / (L) = Lunch / (D) = Dinner
Day 1: Cusco - Km 82 - Wayllabamba (L) (D)
At 6:00am we pick the passengers up from their respective hotels in
our bus, and drive to Ollantaytambo, a beautiful town through which
you must pass to begin the Inca Trail. Here you can buy any last
minute items for the trek; here we also highly recommend the wooden
trekking poles sold here because they help immensely throughout the
trek. From Ollantaytambo, we continue to Km. 82 (2600 meters), where
we begin the trek. After some time we get a view of the
archeological site Llactapata, and then continue through the Valley
of Cusichaca to arrive at Wayllabamba (3000 meters), where we spend
the night.Trek duration: 6 hours of mostly flat hiking in
preparation for the second day.
Day 2: Huayllabamba - Pacaymayu (B) (L) (D)
This is the most difficult day of the trek and requires some
serious physical exertion. We ascend to the highest point of the
whole trek at the summit of Warmihuanusca (dead woman's pass) at an
altitude of 4200 meters. Here you can appreciate the panoramic view
of the mountains and valleys. We then descend to the valley of
Pacamayu (3500 meters) where we camp. Trek duration: approximately 8
hours.
Day 3: Pacaymayu – Winaywayna (B) (L) (D)
This is the day in which you can most enjoy the Inca Trail.
After breakfast, we begin the hike, which begins by ascending
another, significantly smaller pass named Sayacmarca (3900 meters).
After this pass you will get to experience the cloud forest, where
you can enjoy the abundance of plants (orchids) and animals (birds).
We also visit the archeological sites of Runcuraqay, Sayacmarca,
Phuyupatamarka, and Winaywayna (2650 meters), which is where we camp
for the night. Trek duration: approximately 8 hours
Day 4: Winaywwayna – Machu Picchu (B)
We wake up very early at 4:00am and after eating breakfast begin
hiking to Intipunku (the Sun Gate) to get our first, incredible
glimpse of the early morning sunlight shining on Machu Picchu
(weather dependent). From Intipunku, we hike down to Machu Picchu
where there is a guided visit of the ruins. After the guided visit,
you will have time to explore the ruins at your leisure and
independently; you may also ascend Huayna Picchu or descend to the
town of AguasCalientes and visit the hot springs. At the end of the
day, we take the train back to Cusco. Trek duration: approximately 3
